A 23-year-old Jersey City man has charged with attempting to carjack the vehicle of a man with whom he has had and ongoing beef was ordered held on a $200,000 cash or bond bail today, officials said.
JERSEY CITY - A 23-year-old city man has charged with attempting to carjack the vehicle of a man with whom he has had and ongoing beef with was ordered held on a $200,000 cash or bond bail today, officials said.
The allegation is that Alberto Rios, of the 100 block of Clendenny Avenue, and the victim had a running feud and on Dec. 6 the victim was driving his vehicle when Rios approached it, Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor John said in court today.
Rios "armed with a handgun, threatened to inflict victim (name omitted) with immediate bodily injury to gain possession of a Honda Civic ... in which (name omitted) was the driver and occupant of said vehicle, the criminal complaint say. Wojtal said the alleged victim managed to drive away.
Rios made his first court appearance on the charges today in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City. He has six prior arrests and criminal convictions for assault on a police officer and aggravated assault, a court official said.
Probable cause for the charge is the recorded statement of the victim, the complaint says.
