Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statement confirming the death.
"Justice Antonin Scalia was a man of God, a patriot, and an unwavering defender of the written Constitution and the Rule of Law," the governor said. "He was the solid rock who turned away so many attempts to depart from and distort the Constitution."
Officials have not yet provided details on how Scalia died. San Antonio Express-News reported Scalia died of "apparent natural causes" at a West Texas luxury ranch.
