Police seek tips from the public
PATERSON -- Authorities on Saturday identified the man who was shot and killed on Ellison Street as a 64-year-old store owner.
Police responded to reports of shots fired around 9 p.m. Friday and found Jose Tavarez wounded, according to Detective Capt. Heriberto Rodriguez, head of the city's major crimes division. Tavarez died at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Authorities did not identify which store the man owned. A statement from the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said the shooting occurred at 29 Ellison Street.
