Sussex County might receive up to 2 inches of snow
It'll be a wet Tuesday in New Jersey. Whether that precipitation arrives in the form of rain or snow depends on where you are, though.
Forecasters are calling for a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain in Sussex, Warren, Morris, western Passaic and western Bergen counties. Up to two inches of snow will fall today and tonight in extreme northwestern New Jersey, and up to an inch could drop in the Morristown and Mahawah areas, the National Weather Service says.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for those areas from 1 p.m. Monday until 9 a.m. Tuesday. The wintry mix could be accompanied by up to a tenth of an inch of an ice in Sussex, with lesser amounts in areas further south and east.
The snow should change over to sleet or freezing rain by early evening before eventually transitioning to plain rain on Wednesday morning.
Highs will be in the mid 30s this afternoon before dropping into the upper 20s and low 30s overnight.
As for the rest of the state, expect mainly rain with highs in the upper 30s. The rain should continue into Wednesday and Thursday. The heaviest rain from late Wednesday into Wednesday night could bring minor coastal flooding as well as flooding in areas with poor drainage. Winds along the Shore might gust as high as 30 mph.
Expect from one to two inches of rain on Wednesday.
It's also possible fog will hamper the Wednesday morning commute.
