HAMILTON -- A Hamilton public works employee is under investigation for parking a township vehicle in a handicapped parking spot at a Wawa convenience store Thursday night, a township official said.

A picture of the car was posted on Facebook Thursday night. The original poster, a John Donahue, said he did not think it was right, "especially when a poor guy with a cane had to park elsewhere," his post said.

The original post, which has since been removed, but shared by several others, identified the vehicle as "Hamilton car number 34" and said the car was in the spot at 6:10 p.m.

Hamilton Business Administrator John Ricci said Friday the employee, who went for coffee on his night shift, has a personal handicapped placard for his personal vehicle.

Ricci said the employee, who he did not identify, told Hamilton officials the placard was in the township vehicle he was driving Thursday night. Ricci said it's possible the person who snapped the photograph did not see it.

"It appears as though he did have the right to park there," Ricci said.

Ricci said the township will investigate the matter further, though, and that was still underway Friday afternoon, Ricci said.

In a Facebook message, Donahue declined to comment further on the post.
