A Pennsylvania man was sentenced to life plus 14 years in prison for his role in four armed robberies in Middlesex County.
NEW BRUNSWICK -- A Pennsylvania man was sentenced Friday to life plus 14 years in prison for taking part in four armed robberies of cell phone stores in Edison and South Brunswick.
Superior Court Judge Barry Weisberg sentenced Michael Mitchell of Bristol, Pa. to serve the prison term consecutively to a 25-year term he is currently serving for an armed robbery in Somerset County.
Weisberg gave Mitchell credit for 869 days in custody since his arrest.
Mitchell was convicted on Dec. 1, 2015 of counts of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, theft and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said that during the trial evidence and testimony showed the defendant was among three individuals who robbed cell phone stores in Edison on Dec. 8, 2011, Jan. 5, 2012, and Jan. 12, 2012 and in South Brunswick on Dec. 19,2011.
The case was presented by Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Surman.
Mitchell's step brother, Mack Mitchell, 22, of Bristol, Pa. pleaded guilty prior to the trial and has been sentenced to 26 years in prison. Another co-defendant, Emendo Bowers, 28, of the Somerset section of Franklin Township, also pleaded guilty and is serving a 15 year prison sentence. The two must serve 85 percent of their sentences before they can be eligible for parole.
