Christopher Smallwood is accused of attempting to "run over" two officers after a fight at a McDonald's Sunday morning
HOBOKEN — A former college football player was charged with assaulting two Hoboken police officers early Sunday morning following the annual Leprecon event, according to authorities.
Christopher Smallwood, 24, of Warminster, Pa., struggled with Sgt. Steve Aguiar and Detective Christine Collins after they attempted to apprehend him following a fight at the McDonald's on Washington Street around 2:30 a.m., Hoboken Police Chief Ken Ferrante said in a statement.
A former running back at Delaware Valley University, Smallwood is accused of attempting to "run over" the officers as he fled the scene, breaking three of Collins' ribs and dislocating Aguilar's shoulder.

Ferrante said Smallwood was able to evade capture until turning himself in on multiple aggravated assault charges around noon Sunday.
Both officers were taken to Hoboken University Medical Center and released later Sunday, though both will miss time at work due to their injuries, he added.
Smallwood was one of 15 people arrested at this year's Leprecon — a St. Patrick's Day-themed event sponsored by private promoters, bars and restaurants that regularly attracts thousands of revelers.
Problems with the event have caused the city to hire officers from Union City, North Bergen and Hudson County to assist them, which will cost the city an estimated $111,000 in overtime.
