BRIDGETON -- City police are investigating a stabbing that injured a 58-year-old man Saturday night.

Bridgeton Police Department officers were dispatched Saturday around 10 p.m. to the area of Wood Street and East Avenue.

According to Lt. Thomas Speranza, the 58-year-old man was leaving a family function when three unknown men approached him. The man believed he was punched in his back but then discovered he was stabbed.

The three men fled on foot southward on East Avenue.

Authorities transported him to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

Police are reviewing security camera footage from a nearby home to attempt to identify the attackers, Speranza said.

The lieutenant described one attacker as wearing all black, the other wearing a white sweatshirt with black pants and the third wielding a knife while wearing a red and blue striped flannel shirt.

Nothing was taken and no words were exchanged between the man and the three attackers, according to Speranza.
