PATERSON -- A city man is in critical condition Saturday after an early morning shooting in the first ward, police say.
At around 3:30 a.m Saturday, police responded to the intersection of North Straight and North Main streets after the ShotSpotter gunfire system reported shots fired in the area, Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale said in a press release.
Officers responded to the area but did not find any victim or witnesses. Shortly after, a 29-year-old man entered Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the temple area.
The city man remains in critical but stable condition, Speziale said.
An investigation revealed that the victim was seated in a vehicle on North Straight Street when shots were fired by a group that had gathered in the area.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detectives Christopher Ravallese or Francisco Brito of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
