WILDWOOD -- Hoverboards can start fires and people sue "at the drop of a dime."
Those are the two reasons cited by Wildwood officials as to why they're considering banning hoverboards from the city's boardwalk.
Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. told PressofAtlanticCity.com that the Wildwood city commission plans to consider an ordinance that would keep the motorized apparatuses off the wooden planks.
Wildwood, like many Shore towns, now limits hours when bicycles and skateboards can be used on their boardwalk.
At least a dozen New Jersey colleges have fully or partially barred hoverboards from campus. Hoverboard batteries have been also been blamed for multiple fires in New Jersey in recent months, including one last week in Wayne.
