UPPER SADDLE RIVER -- A Toms River woman bilked two people out of thousands of dollars over the past year, police said.

Dana A. Wagner, 47, lost her job at a car dealership in New York in August and stole the identifying information of an elderly customer, Upper Saddle River Police Chief Patrick Rotella said in a statement.

Wagner got a job at another dealership and used the stolen information to buy a $50,000 car in the elderly customer's name, Rotella said. She also bought an insurance policy for the car in the customer's name and drove it as her own.

She then defrauded a second person by claiming to manage local car dealerships, Rotella said. Wagner convinced this person to open a car detailing company that her dealerships would use to prep and clean vehicles.

This person gave Wagner $27,000 for payroll, supplies and insurance coverage to operate the detailing company. Wagner put the money in her own account, Rotella said.

Upper Saddle River Police arrested Wagner Wednesday in Toms River with help from Toms River and Barnegat Police. Wagner is charged with forgery, theft by deception, identity theft and insurance fraud.
