2 charged in South Jersey kidnapping, robbery

The men were arrested when one was allegedly spotted with a gun in Ventnor

ATLANTIC CITY -- Two Pleasantville men were charged with kidnapping and robbing an Atlantic City man on Wednesday, police said.

Steven Young Jr., 24, and Sterling Spence, 23, forced a 30-year-old man into a vehicle on the 4500 block of Atlantic Avenue in Atlantic City, police said in a news release.

The victim was allegedly assaulted and robbed of his cell phone during a ride to Pleasantville and then Ventnor.

Ventnor police learned of the incident when they received a 911 call reporting a man carrying a gun. Young and Spence were arrested when police arrived in the area of Dorset and Ventnor Avenues and the victim told them what happened.

A search of the area failed to turn up a firearm, authorities said.

Young and Spence were also charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. They were held in the Atlantic City jail on $200,000 bail apiece.

The victime suffered minor injuries.
