FORT LEE - A Sussex County woman was arrested Monday for thousands in unpaid tolls as she drove a dump truck across the George Washington Bridge, according to Port Authority Police.

Laura R. Tarrats, 42, of Wantage was crossing the upper toll plaza of the bridge about 9 a.m. when police say they noticed she went through the toll without paying.

After pulling over the driver, police said they discovered she did not have an EZPass transponder and owed more than $15,800 in tolls and fees.

"They did a computer check (on the license plate) and discovered she owed more than $15,800 in upaid tolls and fees. The fees were for each time she went through the toll without paying," said Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

Tarrats' EZPass account had been revoked in February, police said.

Tarrats was charged with theft of service, toll evasion and traffic violations. She is due in court on June 17, police said.
