LONG BRANCH -- A NJ Transit train fatally struck a pedestrian Saturday night, officials said.
The pedestrian, who officials referred to as a "trespasser," was hit just east of the Elberon train station.
None of the crew members or approximately 75 passengers onboard train No. 4777 were injured, said Jim Smith, a spokesman for NJ Transit.
The North Jersey Coast Line train was traveling from Long Branch to Bay Head. Train service was suspended in that area for approximately one hour, Smith said.
No additional information, including the identity of the pedestrian, was available Sunday morning.
The incident is under investigation by NJ Transit officials.
