The two men each had handguns, police said.
TRENTON -- Police arrested two city men who fled Saturday after the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old in Trenton.
Trenton Police Lt. Stephen Varn did not say whether the arrests were connected to the shooting of Maurice Wimbush-Jalaah.
"At this point no one has been charged with the homicide," he said.
Trenton Detectives Jonathan Cincilla and Crystal Everett were responding to the shooting at Prospect Village, a Trenton Housing Authority development, when they saw three men running from the scene on Louise Lane, Varn said. The men stopped running when the detectives approached.
The detectives ordered them to surrender at gunpoint, Varn said. One of the men, Jashawn Smith, 18, ran away.
Cincilla ran after him. During the chase, Cincilla saw Smith had a gun in his hand, Varn said.
Cincilla stopped Smith with the help of other responding officers. He ordered Smith at gunpoint to drop his weapon, which he did, Varn said.
Smith struggled as Cincilla took him into custody, Varn said.
One of the other men, Juprie Wadley, 18, was also found to be in possession of a handgun, Varn said. Wadley was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and having a defaced firearm.
Smith was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, obstruction and resisting arrest. The third man wasn't charged.
Detectives also found a third handgun on Louise Lane, Varn said.
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force was still investigating the shooting of the 15-year-old on Sunday, Varn said. Maurice was shot outside Prospect Village and died after being hospitalized.
