City officials are moving toward designating a developer for a portion of Harbor Station South, and are scheduled to meet in closed session tomorrow to further discuss the matter.

BAYONNE -- City officials are getting closer to designating a developer for a portion of Harbor Station South, and are scheduled to meet in closed session tomorrow to further discuss the matter.

City Council President Sharon Nadrowski said the proposed developer isn't new to city officials and has submitted a proposal to develop Harbor Station South in the past, though she couldn't say who it is.

Harbor Station South is the southwestern portion of the city's former Military Ocean Terminal.

Asked if designating a developer would help the city's ongoing effort to fill a $15 million revenue hole, Nadrowski said city officials are "continuing to look at all the options."

She said the city is still pursuing its plan to sell some of its future assets from the Port Authority to fill most of the hole, which opened up in March after developer Kate Howard LTD backed out of developing Harbor Station South.

Bayonne Business Administrator Joe DeMarco declined yesterday to identify the proposed developer for a portion of Harbor Station South. He said more information will be released at a later time.

A resolution mentioning the unnamed developer is listed at the end of the City Council caucus meeting agenda, which represents a first draft of the City Council meeting agenda. The 2016 budget is also listed on the agenda.

DeMarco said officials will be meeting in closed session after tomorrow's City Council caucus meeting to talk about Harbor Station South as well as the city's plan to sell future assets from the Port Authority.

An agenda for the special meeting states that "no formal action" will be taken during the closed meeting.
