The 34-year-old man is the fourth person to be injured by gunfire in the city since Sunday night.
BURLINGTON CITY -- A 34-year-old city man is in critical but stable condition after he was shot in the chest early Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
City police said officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound at about 1:30 a.m. on the 500 block of York Street, less than half a mile away from the basketball courts where three people were injured in a shooting Sunday night.
Police said they do not believe the two incidents are connected, and that the Tuesday morning shooting followed a dispute between two people.
Officers were already keeping an eye on the area at the time after receiving an unspecified complaint and arrived just as first responders were being dispatched to the scene from a 911 call.
The victim was transported by Endeavor EMTs and Virtua paramedics to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
The shooting remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made.
The three victims who were injured in Sunday night's shooting near the playground at Mitchell and Linden avenues are expected to recover. Two sustained what police described as possible graze wounds.
Anyone with information about either incident is urged to contact city police Det. Anna Czajka at 609-386-0262, ext. 221, leave a tip at burlingtonpolicenj.com or message the department on Facebook. Police said all messages received will remain confidential.
