Martin Taccetta launching multiple appeals of earlier life sentence
MORRISTOWN -- A convicted mobster challenging a life sentence for racketeering in Ocean County received another eight years in a second racketeering case Wednesday, the Daily Record reported.
Martin Taccetta, 64, who pleaded guilty in June, was one of 32 people charged in "Operation Heat," a 2007 takedown of an illegal sports betting and money laundering ring that racked up more than $2 billion in a little over a year, authorities said.
Taccetta is already serving life plus ten years on the Ocean County racketeering charges but is appealing that sentence. He hopes to take his appeal of that conviction to the U.S. Supreme Court and is also planning to fight that conviction in state court.
