Victim was known to suspect, authorities said
NORTH ARLINGTON -- A local man was arrested after authorities said he bit a child on the leg, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement Wednesday.
David Bell, 39, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after the purported victim reported the incident to school personnel Tuesday. Bell is "known to the child" but their precise relationship was not disclosed by the prosecutor's office.
The incident was reported to the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency, which contacted the prosecutor's office. An investigation was carried out by the prosecutor's Special Victims Unit and North Arlington police.
Bell, an unmarried cemetery worker, was released on $50,000 bond with no 10 percent option. He was ordered to surrender his passport and is barred from contact with the child.
