Jermaine Woodward Jr.'s No. 19 jersey was retired last night in a stirring tribute to the young football star who was struck by a car and died in June.

Jermaine, 8, who was known as "Lil Maine" to family and friends, was a star wide receiver and defensive back for the Jersey City Gators youth football team. Last night at a pep rally at the football field in Lincoln Park, teammates, family and friends paid tribute to Jermaine, who also played soccer and basketball.

The School 14 student was standing in a bike lane looking to cross the street when he was struck in front of his father's girlfriend's home on June 28, family members said. Jermaine broke his arm, leg and pelvis and died the next day at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health.
