Child suffered serious injuries, police said
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP -- A 5-year-old was airlifted to the hospital Tuesday after he was accidentally hit by a pickup truck driven by his father, police said.
The accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Fernwood Avenue, when Thomas Kinzer, 35, was pulling a trailer from the rear of his home to the front yard. Police said the boy, who was playing on a motorized toy tractor, drove into the truck's path and was run over by Kinzer, who did not see him.
Police did not release specific information on the boy's condition but said he suffered serious injuries. After being treated at the scene by Atlanticare paramedics and the township's ambulance squad, he was flown to Cooper Regional Trauma Center in Camden.
The accident was under investigation by the police traffic safety unit.
