Voters will take to the polls next Tuesday to decide who should represent them in six spots on the Hoboken City Council and three spots on the city's school board.
HOBOKEN -- Voters will take to the polls Tuesday to decide who should represent them in six spots on the Hoboken City Council and three spots on the city's school board.
In the city's nonpartisan city council race, all six ward seats, each for a four-year term, are up for grabs.
In the First Ward, incumbent Theresa Castellano is facing off with Michael DeFusco, while in the Second Ward, Bonnie Murray, Peter Biancamano and Tiffanie Fisher are in a three-way race. Incumbent Michael Russo is running uncontested in the Third Ward.
In the Fourth Ward, Ruben J. Ramos Jr., Dana Wefer and incumbent Timothy S. Occhipinti are vying for a seat, while incumbent Peter Cunningham and Eduardo Gonzalez are facing off in the Fifth Ward. Incumbent Jennifer Giattino and outgoing Assemblyman Carmelo G. Garcia are opponents in the Sixth Ward.
Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer has endorsed DeFusco (First Ward), Fisher (Second Ward), Wefer (Fourth Ward), Cunningham (Fifth Ward) and Giattino (Sixth Ward).
The three at-large seats on the nine-member council, as well as the mayor's seat, will be up for vote in 2017.
Meanwhile, in the school board race, eight candidates are vying for three seats, each for a three-year term: Patricia Waiters, Sheillah Dallara, Diane Rubino, Thomas Kluepfel (incumbent), Addys Velez, Britney A. Montgomery, Alanna M. Kauffmann and John Madigan.
The Hoboken Board of Education has a total of nine members.
