BAYONNE -- City officials officially opened a playground earlier today in 16th Street Park specifically designed for children with special needs.
Officials broke ground on the playground on Sept. 14.
Today, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, supervisor of the Division of Recreation Pete Amadeo, city council members and a group of parents and children celebrated the playground's opening along with a few other events for special needs kids.
The season finale of the special needs soccer academy took place about an hour before the playground was opened. A "trunk-or-treat" for special needs children -- where they collected candy from the back of cars -- followed the playground event.
