A long line of people waited to see Sabore Worrell face-to-face one last time, coming away from his casket afterward in tears, overcome with emotion
BAYONNE -- A 24-year-old Bayonne man whose life was tragically cut short was remembered by family and friends as a loving, protective "free spirit" at his wake and funeral service earlier tonight.
Over 150 people gathered to mourn the death of Sabore Worrell, who was crossing Route 440 at 32nd Street/Lefante Way Monday night when he and his friend, Tyler Sellers, were both struck and killed by a Toyota Camry.
At the Migliaccio Funeral Home at 851 Kennedy Blvd., a long line of people waited to see Worrell face-to-face one last time, coming away from his casket afterward in tears, overcome with emotion.
In a prayer service at 6 p.m., Worrell's brother, Tyrone, remembered him as a "free spirit."
"He called the shots in his life. He decided what his fate was going to be, and what he was going to do, no matter what anybody told him," the 31-year-old said, adding that his brother was "smart" and "funny."
Tyrone fondly recalled growing up sleeping in the same room as Sabore, and how he'd sometimes wake up at night, and Sabore would be next to him because Sabore had heard him talking in his sleep and was scared.
Sabore also "did a lot for everybody in the family," taking care of their mother when she was sick, Tyrone said. When Tyrone moved away from Bayonne, he knew his mother would be all right as long as Sabore was with her, he said.
Rev. Billy Willard of New Life Church in Bayonne spoke after Tyrone, sharing his memories of Sabore and encouraging the crowd to accept Jesus in their lives.
After the service ended, Tyrone told The Jersey Journal that Sabore had planned on moving to Pennsylvania this week with his girlfriend and their 5-month-old son to get a fresh start.
"He was just starting to become a really, really great father for his son," Tyrone said.
