Woman and teen were arrested Monday, officials said.
NEWARK -- Authorities have arrested a 30-year-old Newark woman who they say was employing a teenager to help her sell drugs on a city street.
According to a release form Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura, undercover officers spotted Catrina Craft sitting in her 2015 Dodge Charger at the intersection of South 19 Street and Avon Ave. Monday night. A 17-year-old boy was standing outside the car, Fontoura said.
Officers responding to neighborhood complaints allegedly saw Craft and the teen work together to sell two heroin-filled glassine envelopes to passersby, Fontoura said. A later search of her car found 10 more heroin envelopes, and nine bags filled with crack cocaine, authorities said.
The relationship between the woman and the teen was not immediately clear.
Craft and the teen were arrested on various drug charges, officials said. Craft was also charged with employing a juvenile in a drug distribution scheme, Fontoura said. She was arraigned Tuesday and remanded to the Essex County jail on $75,000 bail, Fontoura said.
The teenager is awaiting a family court hearing at the county's youth detention center, officials said. The passersby were issued summonses and released on their own recognizance, authorities said. They will be arraigned later this week.
