Getting to Lady Liberty on a ferry is nice, but how about using a jetpack instead?
The idea isn't as crazy as it may have once sounded. Australian man David Mayman flew around the Statue of Liberty last week on a jetpack he developed with inventor (and Oscar winner) Nelson Tyler.
The two men are behind JetPack Aviation, and posted incredible video last week of Mayman soaring through the air using the JB-9 Jetpack. The two men say this is the first time the viability of personal flying devices has been proven.
The jetpack, powered by two turbine jet engines, took 10 years to become a reality. Its creators say it can fly up to 10,000 feet.
Sam Pesin, president of Friends of Liberty State Park, whose father, Morris, is known as the father the state park, told The Jersey Journal, "It would have saved my father time if he had gone (by) jetpack ... to Lady Liberty instead of canoe in 1958."
