A two-alarm fire was reported last night at a building under construction on Greene Street, according to a city spokeswoman.

JERSEY CITY - A two-alarm fire was reported last night at a building under construction on Greene Street, according to a city spokeswoman.

The fire at 200 Greene Street occurred when some cardboard ignited on the 52nd floor after crews left causing smoke conditions, according to Jersey City Spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the small fire, which did not extend past the cardboard that had ignited, Morrill said.

The incident was deemed a two-alarm fire because while it was small in scope, it was still in a highrise building, she added.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Morrill.
