Police later found the suspect car abandoned at an intersection.

ELIZABETH -- The driver of a 2000 Buick hit a three-year-old boy and fled the scene Monday afternoon, police said.

Officers arriving at the 200 block of Magnolia Ave. around 3:30 p.m. found city firefighters treating the boy for minor injuries, Lt. Daniel Geddes said.

He said both of the child's parents were there and had seen the car hit their son.

The boy went to Trinitas Hospital for treatment, Geddes said, and police later found the blue Buick abandoned at the intersection of Front and Fulton Streets.

The incident is under investigation. To report information, call the Elizabeth Police Department's Traffic Division at 908-558-2066.
