Severe thunderstorms are predicted to hit southern portions of the Garden State Parkway as commuters make the drive home.
Commuters are being warned that severe thunderstorms are predicted to hit the southern portion of the Garden State Parkway during the evening rush hour.
New Jersey Turnpike Authority officials issued a severe weather warning for the Garden State Parkway from Cape May to Exit 105 in Tinton Falls. Officials said the greatest threat would be between 5 and 7 p.m.
State DOT traffic alerts reported downed trees on the Parkway North in two separate locations near Exit 6 in Middle Township, which blocked the left and right lanes. The were reported cleared from the road at 5:13 p.m.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Monmouth and Northeastern Ocean Counties with predictions of 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts and hail the size of quarters. Other southern counties were under a severe thunderstorm watch.
Cape May county was under a brief tornado watch, which was lifted at 4:15 p.m.
